Households

Households group related people into a family unit while keeping each person as an independent record in OKTO.

If a person is not yet connected to a household, staff can create a new household or add the person to an existing one.

When a household already exists, the profile can show the household name and its members. Household roles can be used to describe the relationship of each person to the family unit.

Common household roles include:

  • Head
  • Spouse
  • Child
  • Adult Child
  • Member
  • Other

A person’s age and grade data can help staff identify children in family-oriented workflows.

The dedicated Households view provides a broader look across family units. A household listing can include the household name, members, head of household, children, and other summary information.

Search can locate a household by its name or by a person connected to it.

Opening a household provides access to its member list and household-level actions. From there staff can:

  • Rename the household.
  • Review members and their roles.
  • Open an individual person’s profile.
  • Remove a person from the household without deleting that person’s record.

Deleting or removing a household relationship should not be treated as deleting the people attached to it. Person records remain independent of the household container.

When adding another person to a household, search the existing People database and assign the appropriate household role. If the person does not exist yet, create their person record first so the household does not become a second source of identity data.
