Initial setup and onboarding

When a new OKTO organization is created, onboarding focuses on the minimum information needed to enter the platform and begin configuring real ministry workflows.

The first-run wizard guides a new organization through three stages:

Enter the church information that OKTO uses across the platform, such as the organization name, website, location, and other core profile details. Review this information carefully because it can appear in member-facing experiences and administrative records.

If your church is ready to configure online giving, connect the giving account during onboarding. If not, you can return to the Giving module later and complete the connection there.

The review step summarizes the initial setup and hands you off to the major areas of OKTO. You do not need to populate every module before continuing.

After onboarding, OKTO can surface a setup checklist on the dashboard. The checklist reflects actual platform state rather than simply asking whether you clicked through a wizard.

Typical checklist items include foundational platform setup and early data milestones such as:

Area What completion means
Organization profile Core church information has been saved.
Giving connection Giving has been connected when your organization uses online giving.
People Your organization has begun adding active people records.
Groups At least one group has been configured.
Services Your team has created a service plan.
Giving funds Your giving structure has begun to be configured.
Engagement Engagement features have been configured for your organization.
Check-In At least one check-in experience has been created.

The exact checklist may evolve as OKTO adds or changes onboarding requirements. Treat it as a launch guide, not as a requirement to configure every part of the platform at once.

When a module has no data yet, OKTO uses guided empty states instead of presenting a blank table. These screens explain what the module does and provide the primary actions needed to get started.

For example, People offers paths to add a person manually or import a directory. See Importing people for the bulk migration flow.

For most churches, configure in this order:

  1. Organization and team access.
  2. People data.
  3. The two or three ministry workflows you will use immediately.
  4. Integrations required by those workflows.
  5. Reporting, automation, and advanced configuration after the team is comfortable with the basics.

This keeps onboarding focused on adoption instead of turning setup into a large implementation project.
